Scabies are typically defined as an infestation of the skin by microscopic parasites known as mites. This mite goes by the scientific name Sarcoptes scabiei and is easily passed from host to host. The mites can lay and hatch eggs in human skin, often causing symptoms to linger for months, and even years.

Understand that when one member of a household develops the issue, most other member will probably become infested. It is ideal that you prevent household member from sharing beds, clothes, or other items that tend to become infested. Also be sure to wash all household items with hot water and treat all household members simultaneously to prevent a new cycle of infestation.

Scabies do not recede naturally, making medication very important. The issue needs to be addressed with prescription creams, lotions, or pills that are much stronger than non-prescription medications which usually lack the strength to kill off the parasite.
