Prenatal Yoga Teaches Breathing & Relaxation Exercises For Expectant Mothers

December 9, 2011

Everywhere, nowadays, people are complaining of feeling stressed and burnt-out with all the demands of work, family, and even studies. The phrase “so little time, so much to do”, is becoming truer. The psychological stress manifests itself in various ways, through the lowering of a person’s resistance to sickness, through the cramping of muscles, or through an unpleasant change in one’s mood. Because of this, people now have a greater demand for a way to escape the toxicity of their lifestyle and find a place of escape where they can just relax and enjoy even for just awhile.

The truth is one does not need to go far just to be able to relax and have an enjoyable time. Even with just a simple stretching exercise, a basic yoga session, or a beginner’s dance lesson will do as a relaxation and fun activity. If places where these activities can be done are hard to find within one’s area or town, there are available demonstration VCDs and DVDs which are already for sale or for rent in stores and shopping malls.

Another in the list of side effects of muscle relaxant medications is the potential of having poor interaction with other drugs. There are several drugs, particularly the ones used as an aid in psychotherapy, that generate unwanted effects in the body. The central nervous system is a highly sensitive structure, with complicated neural pathways and chemical transmitters. Both psychoactive drugs and some muscle relaxants target certain areas of this system by cutting off certain neurotransmitters or temporarily “shutting down” some receptors in the brain.

For some, prenatal yoga may help women to return to their pre-pregnancy weight more quickly than others. For most, this is a struggle that takes a lot of patience and determination. In general, yoga is an exercise that promotes physical fitness, relaxation, breathing, spiritual and emotional connections, etc.

Other side effects of muscle relaxant use include drowsiness. Some patients have also reported minor headaches after taking a muscle relaxant. A sudden sensation of fatigue, occasionally accompanied by bouts of mild numbness, have also been recorded as possible negative reactions.

These three pointers should be enough guidelines to further make the most out of the escape plan, no matter how brief or how near it may be. Opting for a costly one is one option for those who are capable of handling the expenses. However, for those who are still in a limited budget or limited time, the suggestions above are the most appropriate activities to get into.

Benefit of Yoga - The Christian Viewpoint

November 11, 2011

Baddha Konasana (Bound Angle Pose) is also known as the Cobbler’s Pose because of the similarity to a cobblers sitting position. It is an excellent asana which helps your groin and hip position. It is a forward bending asana which starts off from Staff Pose or Dandasana. You have to bend your knees by bringing the soles of the feet together. This forward bending asana is very different to the other forward bending asanas.

Yoga is a science; and indeed, in many places in the world (such as India), it is referred to as a science. This is not merely playing with words; it truly is approached as a science, which means that it is understood in terms of scientific methods. Yogic science seeks to verify cause and effect, and build principles based upon objective observations. Indeed, in many places in the world, to be a yogic master of any credibility, one must be highly educated in the sciences, including physics and the biological sciences.

This discussion on yoga as science is important for us to include because it allows us to sensibly ask the question: what are the benefits of yoga? After all, if yoga is a faith or a belief, then asking this question isn’t fair; because it’s one that yoga cannot answer in terms that we can objectively understand. Yoga is a science; as empirical and pragmatic as kinesiology, or exercise science, which seeks to understand how the body acts and reacts to changes in the internal physical environment. And even more simply than any of this: each of us has a right to ask the basic question, “why should I bother practicing yoga and what experience or benefits can I expect?”Indeed, while the experience of yoga cannot be reduced to words - just as reading a book on preparing for a marathon isn’t going to actually physically prepare you to run a marathon - the goals and principles of yoga can easily be discussed. Here’s the Mayo Clinic’s take on the benefits of meditation:

Archaeological evidence of the existence of Yoga first appeared in stone seals excavated from the Indus valley. It depicted figures in many Yogic Asanas, or postures, and officially put Yoga in the time period of approximately 3000 B.C. Of greater import, it also linked yoga to the great Indus-Sarasvati Civilization, a period in time that was considered modern and efficient. From the Indus-Sarasvati civilization came the ancient texts known as the Vedas, the oldest scriptures in the world. The Vedas are a collection of hymns that praise a higher power and contains the oldest recorded history of Yoga teachings. The Vedas required the practitioner to transcend human limitations, and reach a higher spiritual plane. In later years, texts known as the Brahmanas were written to explain the rituals and the hymns of the Vedas. Following this came the Aranyakas texts, which outlined the practice of Yogis living in the seclusion of the forest. This led to the beginning of India’s medical tradition, known as Ayurveda. All in all, Yoga transformed into a practice of health, harmony of the spirit, and a way of life.

The Christian viewpoint is thus - if one opens the mind to clearer thinking and inner vision, they open the spirit to demonic possession. It is felt that Yoga practice borders on occultism, and that opening one’s mind and spirit to the benefit of yoga is both dangerous and against everything Christianity preaches. Christians believe that studying yoga is akin to practicing Hinduism, and one cannot separate the philosophy of Hinduism from their Christian beliefs, regardless of the health benefit of yoga.

As a practicing Buddhist, I take issue with this viewpoint. To me, this smacks of tunnel vision and narrowmindedness. A Christian is expected to open their heart and minds to Jesus, and to give in to the spirit of the Lord. They are expected to rely on blind faith, and to accept the word of God as the only truth in the world. A thinking person would find this hypocritical, for on the one hand Christians preach that Yoga must be avoided because opening the mind to clearer vision encourages the possibility of demonic possession, yet on the other hand preaches that one must open the mind and heart to accept Jesus into their lives. Opening one’s heart and mind is exactly that - whether it is to look into one’s self, or to accept Jesus into their lives. If, as Christians preach, we are open to demonic possession if we look inside ourselves and open the mind to all the possibilities, how then can we safely open our hearts to the concept of Christianity? Is there a gatekeeper who makes this decision when we do so that determines what path we are to follow? I think not…

Benefits And Importance Of Bhujangasana

November 11, 2011

Bhujangasana is known as the snake or cobras pose because it reflects the look of a raised hood. As you raise your head along with your chest it represents a snake hood. The rest of the body lies down representing the body of the snake. This asana can be one of the best asanas for your back as well as your spine.

A stiff body becomes very flexible by doing this asana. It helps in improving your basic movements. There is fresh supply of blood to the brain which helps it to stimulate the brain for better functioning. The posture helps in toning your abdominal organs which helps to create a flexible body. A flexible body helps you do this posture in a much better manner. If done properly the benefits you reap will remain with you life long.

It has been said that, as long as your back is flexible you still have a long way to go. Every muscle of your body is pulled and stretched which gives the elasticity and suppleness to your backbone. With the passing of age our back starts throwing tantrums and becomes very stiff against our wishes. Before any such thing happens tone your body and other parts of your body by doing this asana.

Sciatica is also prevented as it helps in building and strengthening of the nerves. The sciatic nerves are stretched helping you to recover faster. Your legs are stretched which helps them to get into the proper shape. The legs become much stronger after doing this asana. If you are having weight problems it can help in creating a proper waist line.

This position helps in creating the necessary pressure to the adrenal glands which provides rich supply of blood for the entire body. Liver and other organs next to it also benefits from this asana. Problems of irregular menstrual cycles can be solved with this asana.

In general, knitting is a very quiet act. Thus many people who are involved in this process are also quiet people including librarians, solitary maidens, stoic wives, and kindly grandmothers. The vocal, social knitting aspects were reborn during these days as the urban, hip stitch and bitch. Knitters talk everything about knitting.

Anxiety Depression: Learn How to be worry free.

November 5, 2011

From a religious stand-point, Jesus once asked his 12 disciples: “Which of you by worrying can add a single strand of hair to your head?” Now, you may be of a religious background or maybe not, but, think about that statement and you’d see why worrying, a main symptom of anxiety depression is quite unnecessary.

During this trying stage of a woman, she constantly feels and experiences different thoughts and feelings about her pregnancy and her baby. Sometimes, she can feel good and bright about life. On some days, she can be so depressed and irritable. This sudden shift of feelings can be considered normal for other women, but it can be disturbing not only on the part of the new mothe but also to the rest of the family if these episodes of sadness go on for long periods of time.

In the words of Dr. Smiley Blanton, a noted Psychiatrist: “Anxiety depression is the great modern plague.” Other psychologists go on to say ‘worry’ a noted symptom of any form of depression, is the most subtle and destructive of all human diseases. When we worry excessively, we disintegrate our inner workings as humans and really put a lot of things out of order. Needless to say avoiding worry as a step of treating depression and anxiety will be the first step for our own benefit.

Anxiety Depression: Steps to take to be Worry Free: The following steps should be used to deal with anxiety depression and its main symptom, worry. When used wisely and effectively, you will inevitably be successful at these natural depression help techniques.

These symptoms can be seen in a woman if she acts differently towards herself and her baby as well. Having this type of depression includes risk factors such as previous major depression, psychosocial stress, previous premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and inadequate social support. If a woman has postpartum depression, they may worry a lot when it comes to their baby, particularly regarding the baby’s health and well-being. On very rare cases, women with this form of severe depression may harbor negative and harmful thoughts about their baby. This type of depression can interfere with the woman’s ability to take care of the baby, and it can even come to a point where suicidal thoughts occur.

A big part of preventive care for postpartum depression entails becoming fully informed about the risk factors and effects of pregnancy and childbirth. Regular consultation with the obstetrician-gynecologist would also allow the new mother to get information about the numerous physical, chemical or hormonal changes that will come as a result of pregnancy and childbirth.

The Many Faces of Anxiety

November 5, 2011

The condition known as anxiety can illicit a number of reactions from people. Many view it as a sign of weakness, treating the person experiencing it as a fear-controlled weakling, incapable of properly dealing with the world around him. Others view it as a character flaw that can be overcome, usually by having them continually face situations which cause them anxiety. Others still find that it is a mental problem, one that is easily confused with any number of similar, but not quite the same, psychological conditions. However, outside of the medical profession, most people don’t recognize that anxiety can be likened to an umbrella term, with a few other conditions falling under its jurisdiction.

Panic disorder, which the general public may or may not view as a more extreme form of anxiety, actually falls under the jurisdiction of the latter term’s definition. The two are characterized by the same general set of symptoms. These include extreme dread and fear, though no truly discernible, specific cause can be found. Both conditions have also been known to cause a number of physical side effects, usually the same ones associated with the body’s natural fear response mechanism. The primary difference between the two often lies solely on the intensity of the symptoms, with panic typically causing more noticeable problems than anxiety.

Interestingly, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) has also sometimes been categorized as being a sub-form of anxiety. OCD is a psychological conditions that makes a person put an undue level of focus on a given activity or thing, then compels them to perform actions related to said activity or thing. Jack Nicholson is known for having portrayed a character with OCD, with the focus being on cleanliness, in the film “As Good As It Gets.” The anxiety in this situation stems from instances where the patient fights the “compulsive” part of the disorder. Not doing what the mind believes should be done has been known to cause great discomfort to moments of fear and anxiety.

Another potential consequence of being unable to deal with anxiety is depression. As the stress and anxiety causes a person to be unable to perform his duties professionally or socially, it can cause a lack of confidence. In a world where one’s purpose in life is defined by what he does and the people around him, this can be a massive problem. The lack of confidence only makes any attempts to perform even worse, eventually evolving into a crippling case of performance anxiety. If left untreated still, this problem can easily evolve into clinical depression, as the person loses all ability to see past his mistakes and perceived lack of ability. Obviously, this problem can be addressed by counseling early on, but the problem lies in it being detected by untrained observers during the earlier stages. Most people tend to dismiss the signs as nothing more than a phase or a temporary slump in a person’s ability.

Phobias are often considered to be specialized forms of the general anxiety problem. Unlike panic and the regular form of the condition, a person with a phobia associated feelings of fear and dread with a specific trigger. While PTSD may be associated with a phobia, the two do not always intermingle. In many cases, the fear is completely unfounded, but may be rooted deep in childhood experiences or specific situations.

How Backache Begins

September 4, 2011

Back ache can start from seemingly very inconsequential origins and it may come from significant trauma. People should be made to be aware that small things could lead to years of backache and maybe early retirement.

In my case, my wife and I were visiting a friend of hers and she offered to give me a massage. My wife agreed because of their friendship and because her friend had trained as a masseuse ten years before.

The massage progressed well and she kept asking me whether she was hurting me. She was not, therefore I said no. She stood on the rear of my thighs and asked again. I said no. She said that she had never massaged a white man before and that my muscles were tighter than she was used to.

So, she began kicking the back of my left thigh with her heel. Again she asked if it was painful. It did not. Anyway, she finished the massage and we all had a nice evening. The next day, my left thigh was painful and I had to limp a little. This lasted a couple of of days and then went away.

A week later, I could scarcely walk, limping badly on my left leg. That lasted a month and then my lowest disc slipped out of place. I am still suffering from a slipped or herniated disc as a result of a month of bad posture which was the result of a free massage.

That is how easily it can occur. You do something daft like wearing tight shoes; you acquire a limp and the limp so alters your stance that it puts your back out. If I had known then what I know now, I would not have limped around for a month, I would have rested up.

Take my instance as a serious warning, you can acquire permanent back pain from the stupidest of reasons. A friend of mine has had back ache for thirty years and he remembers the day it happened. He was in the bathroom and twisted to his right to reach for the toilet paper.

Bang! Thirty years of back pain and early retirement.

Be very careful of lifting, pushing and manoeuvring items in general. If your work involves physical work, make sure that your employer or supervisor shows you the safest ways of doing so. Make certain that you use the same ways at home in your private life.

A last suggestion is to remember that we are living longer than ever before, but that means that bones have been wearing out for longer. Bear that in mind, if you are getting on. You might no longer be able to do what you could do merely 10 years ago even if you are healthy.

Help your body live longer without injury by exercising it and giving it at least the recommended daily amounts (RDA) of vitamins that it needs to renew itself.

Owen Jones, the writer of this article, writes on a range of topics, but is now involved with muscle relaxants for back pain. If you would like to know more, please go to our web site at Sore Back Remedies

Go to YouTube’s official website and follow the sign up process. This should not take more than a few minutes. Record a quick yoga session.

If you're targeting neophytes then start with the most simple positions. If you're targeting the more advanced learners then do some truly galvanizing positions. It's also a great thing to send current scholars with yoga videos. This is a good viral marketing strategy because they will likely also get their friends to see it. As much as possible post regularly in your YouTube account, this can certainly keep folk interested and the more videos you post the more relevant you become to the market of your choosing.

A Method of Fixing Your Body Using Taekwondo, Kenpo, Aikido or any Other Martial Art

August 25, 2011

I’m going to tie some different things together here, but it’s the straight goods. Follow what I say, work your way through it, and you’ll be able to fix your body using the martial arts, and this means virtually any art. Karate, Tai Chi Chuan, taekwondo, aikido, Hapkido, any art, and I recommend looking into a discipline such as Yoga.

First, I want you to understand that life is motion. To the extent that something is able to move, it is alive. To the extent that it can’t move, it is dead. This is an important thing to keep in mind when following the advice of this article.

Second, you are Awareness, and you are encapsulated in flesh. You can perceive with and through flesh, but you can’t perceive without Awareness. This is actually the prime factor in virtually all religions, and is core to the construction of the human being.

Third, we’re going to assume you have an injured shoulder. Assume a push up posture, or a modified push up posture, and close your eyes. Perceive through your shoulder.

We are not utilizing the five senses, we are just becoming Aware. Become Aware through your good shoulder, now become Aware through your bad shoulder. This is to say that you should become Aware through your good shoulder, then become Aware through your injured shoulder.

You are actually perceiving your Energy Body here, and you may perceive that the two sides of your body are different. The concept here is to make the bad side like the good side simply through the fact of perceiving of the differences. Believe me, your body will align to the correct DNA structure without the need for any other action than just becoming Aware.

One last hint, you must relax. You can’t force the body into the proper DNA prescribed structure, all you can do is relax, and let the body/Energy/Mind stop holding the body in the injured position. Finally, do this through your martial arts practice, no matter whether it is Tai Chi Chuan, Pa Kua Chang, Hapkido, or whatever, and learn to course the Awareness through any stiff or injured body part, and that’s all there is to it.

The sad fact is that Man has become convinced that he needs doctors, pills, surgery, alternatives, and all that sort of stuff. No, you, the spiritual entity, the I Am, the Awareness hiding in the body, is what fixes you. And you can fix yourself of most any injury, or even illnesses, merely by doing the motions of Tai Chi Chuan, Kung Fu, Kenpo, or any other Martial Art, if you simply take the time to become Aware and use the method I advise here.

Yogata () The Yoga Kata is recommended for people wishing to rehabilitate injuries, get stronger, or just get started. Mouse over to Monster Martial Arts and pick up a free book.
