Heart Rate Monitor Watches For Distance Running

July 9, 2010

Watches as heart rate monitors have been around for a while but it was not until recently that technology and heart-training techniques converge to make training with a monitor both simple and efficient for a distance runner. Heart rate monitors measure the number of times that your heart beats while you are undergoing a physical and strenuous activity. It is critical the you are aware about how hard your body is working during training sessions. If you are an athlete who is engaged in distance running, using heart rate monitor watches enable you to know how hard your heart is working.

In addition, heart monitor watches are devices that are specifically designed for wear during strenuous exercise. They measure and record your heart rate and give you instant feedback as to how hard your heart is working. For runners, it is an important point of focus to ensure that the heart is fit to achieve cardiovascular respiratory endurance. Thus, by wearing a heart rate monitor watch while training or running, these athletes can track the progress of their aerobic endurance.

Most heart rate monitors consist of two parts: chest strap and watch. Athletes wear the strap around the chest, places at heart level, and underneath the clothes. There is a small plastic covered monitor, which should be positioned in the center of the chest. Doing so allows the electrodes of the strap to pick up the electric charges that are coming from the heartbeats. Like a typical watch, the watch of the monitor should be worn around the wrist. This will pick up the information coming from the chest strap, which will allow you to read any information displayed on the screen.

Heart rate monitor watches provide users with a complete record of your heart rate over the course of an entire workout. It is more convenient, easy, and accurate compare with using manual methods of monitoring such as checking your pulse with your thumb or referring to a scale. Immediate feedback regarding your heart rate is provided, thus allowing you to track your performance during each training session. With a monitor, you can also prevent instances of over-training and under-training. You avoid stressing your body too much, and therefore allow you to maximize the efficiency of your training while minimizing possible injuries. In addition, you can also pace your training runs since you are able to watch the rate of your heart.

Accordingly, the best method to maintain and improve cardiovascular fitness is to pace training runs based on your heart rate.
