When you have hypothyroidism you will often feel tired, stressed and weak because of your condition. Many people often also gain weight. Certain foods can change all of that and this is what I’m going to talk about here.
In this article I’m going to run you through the foods which will help you and which will hinder your struggling thyroid. You need to go for foods rich in the amino acid tyrosine. This is because tyrosine combined with Iodine create thyroxin. This is an essential hormone produced by the thyroid gland.
Go for foods that include tyrosine such as almonds, pumpkin seeds, bananas, lentils, fish, turkey and chicken breast. These helped me to feel a whole lot better.
I would also recommend that your diet includes foods rich in iodine. Check out these foods which are a great source of this: Sea kelp, Seaweed, Most Fresh fish, Fish oils, Iodized salt, Condensed milk.
After you’ve eaten a meal try this: sit in a quiet room and try to really notice the effect the food has had on your body. You will notice your energy levels and whether your mind is active or cloudy. Doing this will give you valuable insights on how certain foods effect you personally.
As you do this you will also notice that some of my recommended hypothyroidism foods help more than others and you can increase these in your hypothyroid diet as you go.
Another great tip and one that I have tried myself is to keep a food diary. I recorded all of m meals and how they made me feel afterwards. I would also recommend this technique to anyone using medicines as well. It’s much easier to look back over a diary than to try to remember how you felt at a certain time. If you keep a log on line in this way you can also help others going through the same problem.
Please do not attempt any fad diets as you need to always stay on a healthy eating plan. Fad diets are always unsustainable in the long term. You need a diet that will be perfectly tailored to your needs, especially when you have hypothyroidism.
Take these ideas and use them and you will feel the difference. What have you got to lose?
