Can ice pick acne scars be diminished?

December 3, 2011

The most typical sort of acne scar is often referred to as an “ice-pick” scar. This is because ice-pick scars are little dents (frequently in the cheeks) with jagged edges and steep sides—similar to the marks made by an ice pick.

What's the best acne scar treatment?

The answer used to be dependent on what your scar type was. People for years have been undergoing procedures primarily based on causing a controlled injury to the area with a scar so that the immune mechanism reacts to repair the area in a way that the new scar formed will be small compared against the prevailing scar. Problem is that causes significant side-effects that may leave skin in worse shape then before the process.

Swelling, redness, and even infection can plague some commoner ways to treat acne scars. Do you want to have your scars sanded off with a machine or removed with a laser? Favored acne scar treatments can remove left over marks and damaged tissues but they come at a cost.

Chafing, peeling, and redness are some examples of the preferable complications when debating dermabrasion, chemical peels, and medical techniques like skin grafting, now that's frightful.

Chemical peels are a well-liked method of acne scars treatment. This procedure is usually used for post inflammatory redness and includes using a strong, artificial chemical that saturates into the area affected, giving rise to a new layer of skin. When the layer of chemicals is removed, new, fresh epidermal cells are exposed.

The basic idea behind this acne scarring treatment is that old, damaged tissues and scars are replaced by new cells. The negative aspect is that human skin doesn't always react definitely to vicious chemicals. While not one of the ingredients are explicitly threatening, your skin can be marked by redness and irritation.

Post inflammatory acne scarring can affect tissues deep under the insubstantial layers. Since chemical peels take only the top few layers off, bigger scars can take a few treatments.

Dermabrasion is an acne scar treatment that utilises a little machine resembling a belt sander to remove the topmost layers of skin. Using the machine, damaged skin is physically abraded, repairing scars and giving the skin a rather more natural look.

Dermabrasion isn't the most light facial acne scar treatment neither is it the preferred treatment for depressed acne scars. The rotating wheel can be difficult psychologically to deal with since it comes in such spitting distance to your face, and many times you will need a local anesthetic to help ease the pain.

There is nothing about dermabrasion that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin so that makes it useless against submerged acne scars.

If that weren't enough reason to look for another acne scar treatment, roughly a month to 6 weeks of recovery time is required for complete healing.

If you are trying to find an over the counter acne scar treatment, your options are pretty limited. Plenty of girls become hooked on makeup and concealers since they help cover up scars and give confidence.

Acne scarr ing treatments and creams claim to be the best on the market but the truth of the matter is that most just can’t live up to their extravagant promises.

BIOCUTIS offers 2 products for acne scars: BIOSKINCARE for new acne scars , and BIOSKINEXFOL for old acne scars.

Read my review here. Ice pick acne scars might require undermining the acne scars (subcision) followed by injections (augmentation). It is not uncommon to see more than two procedures combined as well. Getting rid of acne scars is the next challenge we must grappling after acne. Some scars left by acne after it heals can be superficial scars; other scars left by acne can be deep scars.

Garlic is well-known to have antimicrobial properties which have an crucial job to play in junking pimple scarring. Application of coriander juice overnight greatly improves complexion and clears acne scars. If you have dry skin then adds a few drops of coconut oil to the juice before application.

Dealing with acne scars is able to be a harrowing experience for numerous people. Acne scars are one of the most worrying problems for beauty conscious teens. Lasers and lights can also be used to treat acne but there is not enough evidence that these therapies are an effective treatment for acne in the long-term. Yet, the best approach for preventing and reducing a case of scars is to begin treating acne as soon as possible in its development, and to continue treating it as long as treatment is required. When the chances are that inflammation may be prevented or reduced, the chances become better that the scars may be prevented.

So to avoid these side effects while effectively reducing acne scars, percutaneous collagen induction therapy was developed. Chemical Peeling: Say Goodbye To Acne Scars Even Without The Aid Of A Surgical Operation

September 23, 2010

People inflicted with acne scars seldom visit a dermatologist. In fact, only 7 percent of acne sufferers have the courage to seek the help of a dermatologist. This suggests that self treatment is more preferable to the majority of acne sufferers.

There are several reasons why people who are combating this persistent skin problem go for self treatment. For one thing, it is easy to get carried away by the amazing stories about self medications than to have the courage to open up this problem to a dermatologist.

Also, those who opted to see a dermatologist seldom obtain the result they hoped for after undergoing an acne treatment procedure. This is especially true to those who do not comply with the prescription.

However, given the right information, medication and prescription, acne treatment can be successful. An accurate diagnosis is really important because there are numerous causes of pimple breakouts.

Dermatologists recommend chemical peeling (also called derma peeling and chemexfoliation) as one of the treatment procedures for acne scars. Even though chemical peeling has no universal application - since it can also be effective in treating blemishes, skin pigmentation and wrinkles - it works well in treating mild to serious acne scars.

Chemical peels are commonly made of concentrated chemical solutions in the form of Alphahydroxy acids, Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and Phenol. These chemical solutions cause the skin to blister and eventually peel off.

Among these three formulations for chemical peeling, Alphahydroxy acids are the mildest. Individuals who prefer this are advised to observe a daily skin care regimen, such as the application of facial wash or creams of light concentration, especially if their goal is to achieve a smooth and brighter looking skin.

On the other hand, TCA is applied to medium-depth peeling. TCA is less harsh compared with Phenol acids due to its moderate acid concentrations. But individuals who have undergone this procedure should take post treatment schedules seriously so their initial efforts would not be put to waste.

Phenol acids consists the strongest concentration and they are used for deeper peels. Deeper peels are more effective than TCA. However, undergoing this procedure can be uncomfortable due to strong acid concentration. In addition, phenol acids put individuals at risk to sun sensitivity as it prevents the skin from producing melatonin.

Going through acne treatment procedures in the form of chemical peeling must be an agreed decision between the dermatologist and the patient.

The Correlation Of Acne Scars And Depression

September 20, 2010

Scars left by pimples have a big influence on a person’s sense of being. One inevitable - and calamitous - experience that most of us experience during our youth is suffering from a case of acne. We had to live with the vexing pimples and the later scarring.

Bacteria are pinpointed as the major cause of pimples. Bacteria thrive on hair follicles that are plugged with grime and sebum.

Most of us will grown into adults and be zit-free. However, scars left behind by pimples do not always lighten with time, and this can cause woe to some.

There are 4 varieties of scarring caused by acne. Ice pick scars got their name because they are pit-like marks on the skin. Boxcar scars are ordinarily located on the temples and the cheeks, and they could resemble scars left after a case of chickenpox. Keloidal and hypertrophic scars are easily identifiable because of their raised surfaces. Rolling scars make shallow hollows on the skin.

Results of controlled research show that some people experience low self-esteem and depression because of facial scars.

However, there is no need to lose hope just yet. There are now a number of technological developments for the treatment of facial scars caused by acne. Some of these treatment methods use a form of laser therapy. Other treatment methods and procedures require some form of dermabrasion. There are creams and subcutaneous injections available as well. Consult your doctor about the best acne scar removal and/or treatment technology that will suit you.

Acne Treatment For Dry Skin

June 14, 2010

It is not true that people who have oily skin are the ones with the acne problems. Actually, people with dry skin have the same kind of problem. In fact, those who have dry skin even have worse skin problems than those with oily skin. If you have dry skin and you have acne, here are some acne treatment tips to keep in mind.

You can try another type of cleanser that is most suited for your skin. Some people have natural dry skin while there are those who have chemically-induced dryness. If you have dry skin, you should first examine what makes your skin dry. Oftentimes, the problem lies with the cleanser. Maybe you are using a skin cleanser that is specifically made for people who have oily skin.

You can choose the milder cleansers that are fit for babies’ skin. Or maybe even foamy cleansers. Avoid soaps and creams with harsh chemicals like peroxide. By using a new cleanser that moisturizes the skin, you might be able to get rid of your acne problem.

Use moisturizing creamsto help add moisture to your dry skin. It is not true what most people say that you should not use moisturizers if you have acne. Acne treatment for dry skin actually involves adding in lost moisture. Gels or lotions should be non-comedogenic as these moisturizers won’t clog up the pores. They will also help you avoid excessive skin flaking and peeling that makes the skin prone to various kinds of infections.

You should always remember to drink enough amounts of water in a day. We all need enough water in our system. The recommended amount is 8 glasses of water in a day to have a healthy and glowing skin. Dry skin results from being dehydrated. If you drink lots of water, you can keep your body and skin hydrated. Water may just be the best natural acne treatment.

Aesthetic Doctors Are Gearing In For A Boom In Their Field

June 4, 2010

With the recession last year, you would think people would not even bother thinking about seeing aesthetic doctors for their superficial needs. Yet, with the pressure in the job market, people feel that there is the need to look more young and attractive to be competitive. So it was that the aesthetic doctors were the one smiling in the end.

People rush to these aesthetic doctors for minimally invasive procedures which have short to no recovery time, but can make you look younger and instill confidence on your job search. Channel News Asia even reported that most of these people are men. “Aesthetic service providers said business has increased some 30 per cent despite the recession.”

The main treatments that people go for are botox and other age reducing treatments. There are a few who really go for invasive surgery, however. “Observers said people are more willing to invest in aesthetic treatments to get an edge in the job market - especially during an economic downturn.”

Some of the most common treatments these aesthetic doctors perform are: Botox and Intense Pulsed Light or IPL. Botox is the commercial name for the purified, diluted form of botulinum toxin, which is produced by bacteria. It is injected into muscles underneath the skin to paralyse them, creating the effect of reduced wrinkles caused by excessive, repeated movement of these muscles. It is also used to stop excessive sweating in areas including the hand, foot and armpits. To slim the face and make it look more contoured, Botox can be injected into the muscles along the jaw.

IPL on the other hand, “is a treatment where an intense flash of light is emitted onto the skin. The light penetrates through to the inner layers where collagen which is a natural, fibrous protein that keeps skin smooth - is located and stimulates its growth.” It can remove freckles, sun spots and hair. It has become quite popular treatment in Singapore.

Ways To Get Rid Of Body Hairs

February 19, 2010

These days, a woman can not just raise her hands without being sure her underarm is hairless. Smiling just won’t do anymore, she also has to get rid of any hint of mustache on her upper lip. And if you think she wears sleeveless blouse and short skirts on her relaxed days, think once again. Most likely, she didn’t wake up and simply wore those garments instantly. She still had to shave or wax her arms and legs.

While hair removal is very normal for the women, some “macho” guys also get rid of their unwanted hair on the body. While the ladies will not lift an eyebrow upon seeing a hairy man, they likely will not be anxious to introduce themselves to him as well. Some men think that trimming or getting rid of their face and body hair is more attractive to women. It can also be that they find being hair-free more comfortable and sanitary than being covered with their own hair.

Taking off unwanted hair is nothing new. The practice has been present since the ancient civilization time. People are only continuing what they think works.

Those who wish to get rid of unwanted facial and body hairs can choose either to depilate or epilate. Depilating is the removal of the hair from above the skin surface, while epilating is getting rid of the full hair from root to tip.

Depilating techniques include shaving the hair, trimming it, applying chemical creams that break the bonds of the hair, and buffing them away. Common epilating methods include waxing, sugaring, plucking, and threading. And while these techniques are admittedly more painful, hair will take longer to grow back.

For those who are willing to shell out more money, there are permanent ways to remove and reduce hair. Electrolysis permanently removes hair by applying electricity to a solid hair-thin metal probe that is slid into each hair follicle. This will cause localized damage to the follicles, which is responsible for generating hair.

For permanent hair reduction, a popular method is laser hair removal. As the name indicates, it applies laser to cause contained damage in the area that causes hair growth. There is also the Intense Pulsed Light or IPL. Sometimes called as Flashlamps, this method utilizes light of different wavelengths to remove hair and treat several skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation.

Each technique differs on strength, cost, convenience, and the length of time the hair grows back. As each has its own pros and cons, always take extra caution every time you exercise any of the said methods.

Dr. Komathy offers acne clearing among many others. Other aesthetic concerns such as hair loss is also available at The Lifestyle Clinic. This and other unique content ‘unwanted hair removal’ articles are available with free reprint rights.

If you are still suffering from pimples, blackheads, zits, and more, then puberty has nothing to do with it. Clearing out acnes isn’t easy. Before you want to eliminate them, you might want to keep them first from existing.

Get a healthy lifestyle. And by healthy I mean eat, drink, breathe, and live healthy. You need to clear out all the toxicities to clear your acne. Better watch your diet as well. As much as possible, eat less fatty foods and avoid drinking too much alcoholic and caffeinated beverages. Drinking water, lots of it, works wonders as well. It gets rid of oil, waste, and toxins from your body. It will also moisturize your skin, keeping your pores from clogging. There is also the issue of exercising regularly, avoiding stress, quitting smoking, and practicing proper hygiene.

Those preventive steps may help keep the acnes from gracing your face and body, but what if you already have them?

You can try topical creams and gels, but they only eliminate the problem briefly. Not that they’re useless, as a matter of fact, most acne dries out quickly with over-the-counter products. Medicines that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid may be applied to mild to moderate cases of acne. You can also hear other people trusting natural remedies. Honey, oatmeal, ginger, and even ice are said to treat acnes.

But if you have serious acne problem, then topical products aren’t adequate.

Acnes should also be treated internally. As mentioned, topical products work for mild to moderate cases of acne, but they can’t eradicate the source of the problem. There are oral antibiotic drugs that people can take to clear up their acne. However, those medicines, which may contain erythromycin or any of the tetracycline antibiotics, may have side effects that include staining of the teeth among others. So it is best to consult a dermatologist first before taking any oral medicines.

For some girls, acnes are a monthly thing. Each time their menstrual cycle is about to start, women’s hormonal level changes, causing oil secretion of the glands. There are those who find taking oral contraceptives helpful in eradicating their acnes.

Getting rid of acnes has no exact solution. What works for others may not work for some. But whatever measure you prefer, taking a healthy lifestyle won’t hurt.

Breast Implants Checklist Before Getting Yours Done

February 16, 2010

There are different reasons why women wish to have breast augmentation procedures. Others feel more feminine with the added curves; others do it for an advancement in their entertainment career. Some needed to get the operation because of health reasons, while some wish it because it boosts their confidence.

Others may view it negatively, some may even it believe it as complete falseness, but it’s not their choice; it’s yours. Thankfully, society nowadays has become more accepting of aesthetic operations, including breast enlargement.

If you are already sure of getting yours done, answer these pre-surgery questions first. Why are you having one? Others will say they want breast enhancement operation because of health reasons. Some want it for their aesthetic goals, while there are those who just want it for self-confidence. So what is your reason? Remember, it is your body so whatever your reason is for desiring one, just make sure it is yours and yours alone.

Another thing to ask yourself: are you healthy? If you have had a mastectomy, or the surgical removal of breasts due to cancer, you would undoubtedly choose to have breast enlargement. But if you have other goals, make sure you are in perfect health first. Breast enhancement procedures may involve slicing you open and implanting you with silicon or saline before stitching you up. Or you can also be injected with an enhancement substance. Whichever method you choose, you will still face risk. You would require strength to recover from the process.

Just what is the right cup size for you? Are you an AA size who wants to be a DDD overnight? But does it go your frame? While every woman desires to look sexy, having gigantic chests may just look freakish on you. And besides, your back may not be able to hold the sudden excess weight on your front, which could eventually lead to further health troubles for you. Ask your friends and consult a medical professional which size is right for you.

Are you getting under the knife held by reliable hands? The surgeon who would perform the operation might not be authorized to do so. Only trust licensed surgeons. Ask around, inquiry some more. Avoid falling into the hands of so-called doctors who have a abysmal account of surgical works. Qualified doctors may cost more, but you should never take risks with your body.

Do you have the time and patience to follow up your operation with regular check ups? This phase is not optional, it’s required. Don’t get breast augmentation surgery if you can’t have post-operation check ups. This will help identify if your new chests are getting problem or if your body is reacting well to them. You can have it annually or every after a few years. The important thing is, get regular appointment at the doctor’s office because your health counts on it.

Whatever your reasons for having breast augmentation operation is yours alone. Others may not see it, but you don’t need to answer to them. But before you jump onto the operating table, make certain you have answers to the questions. It may save you time and money, and not to mention, it may also save your life.
