The Magic Behind Medicine Making

January 23, 2010

The science of pill and syrup formula making is a fascinating one. The amount of pills and both over the counter and prescription syrups purchased over the span of just one year alone is quite amazing. Pharmaceutical companies make billions of dollars every year alone by creating these medicines, and the pharmaceutical industry is one of the biggest industries in the United States and throughout the world today.

It is, concordantly, interesting to learn about how pills actually work and are created? How is it possible that by continuously swallowing a few pills over the course of a few days that an illness can be entirely eliminated from the body and an immune system strengthened? After all, from a simple point of view, all pills look alike, and unless they had different colors they would all appear to be the same.

It all begins with the understanding of each illness. Doctors and scientists do research by performing experiments on different animals and people in order to first identify the illness. Autopsies are performed on cadavers in order to understand the effects of each illness.

Once the illness and its effects on the body are properly identified, scientists have a clear understanding of which bodily system the illness attacks and how it does so.

Then, two things need to take place. Firstly, the illness must be eliminated from the body entirely. After that is done, the body must recover from the damage that was done and heal the areas that were affected.

For this to take place, scientists first need to identify the right chemical compounds that will help eliminate the illness from the body, and they experiment with all different kinds of compounds in order to do so. They then assess the damage that was caused by the illness and supplement the body with healing agents to help the immune system be restored to full capacity.

It is important take note of the fact that all of these processes occur within scientific labs and facilities. However, the actual mass production into forms such as pills, tablets, syrups, and gel capsules occurs in medicine production plants.

The final stage is the actual mass production of the medicine, which is generally carried out by a paid contractor. When choosing the contractor, pharmaceutical companies look for the contractor that is well known for being extremely detail oriented and precise with all measurements required. They also search for a contractor with the facilities to handle the required amount of production.
